Job requirements
We are seeking a Lead Azure Migration Architect to serve as the central technical authority for our enterprise-wide Azure subscription migration program. This strategic role involves architecting the complete migration strategy, orchestrating the automated cutover of diverse application workloads, and coordinating multiple engineering teams. The ideal candidate will take end-to-end ownership of the technical execution, ensuring a secure, efficient, and seamless transition of subscriptions to the new target landing zone.
Responsibilities
Migration Architecture & Strategy: Design the end-to-end technical strategy for migrating Azure subscriptions, ensuring alignment with security, governance, and business objectives.
Technical Orchestration: Lead and orchestrate the automated cutover of application workloads, leveraging Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines to ensure minimal downtime and risk.
Network Design & Transition: Architect complex network migration plans, including the re-peering of spoke VNets to a new hub, management of Global VNet Peering, and precise traffic control using User-Defined Routes (UDRs) during phased cutovers.
Governance & Compliance: Define and implement robust Azure governance standards for the new landing zone.
Analyze and remediate the impact of reparenting subscriptions within the new Management Group structure, ensuring policy and RBAC inheritance is correctly applied.
Automation & Tooling: Develop and maintain a suite of automation scripts using PowerShell or Azure CLI for pre-migration validation, execution, and post-migration health checks.
Dependency Analysis: Conduct meticulous, holistic dependency analysis across all application service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to identify and mitigate risks associated with network, identity, and service dependencies.
Team Leadership & Coordination: Act as the primary technical liaison, coordinating efforts across networking, security, application, and platform engineering teams to ensure unified execution.
Risk Management & Validation: Proactively identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
Design and execute comprehensive testing and validation procedures to confirm the integrity and performance of migrated workloads.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5+ years in a senior role focused on Azure architecture and implementation.
Proven, hands-on experience leading at least one large-scale Azure-to-Azure subscription migration program.
Azure Networking (SME Level) Deep, practical expertise in designing, implementing, and migrating between Azure hub-and-spoke architectures.
Mastery of Global VNet Peering, transit routing, and managing the complexities of re-peering spokes to a new hub.
Expert-level command of User-Defined Routes (UDRs) for controlling traffic flow during phased migrations.
Proficiency in configuring and managing Azure Firewall, Network Security Groups (NSGs), and Application Security Groups (ASGs).
Solid understanding of hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute, VPN Gateways) and Azure Private DNS Zones.
Azure Governance & Identity (Architect Level)
A profound understanding of Azure Policy inheritance through Management Groups and the ability to remediate policy conflicts during subscription moves.
Expertise in designing Management Group hierarchies and managing RBAC inheritance effectively.
Strong foundational knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, including service principals, managed identities, and their role in cross-subscription access.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation Demonstrable, hands-on mastery of Terraform or Bicep for deploying and managing complex Azure environments.
Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell or Azure CLI for automation, validation, and operational tasks.
DevOps & Application Modernization
Deep expertise in designing and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps Pipelines or GitHub Actions) to automate deployment, testing, and validation during the cutover process.
Meticulous ability to map and understand complex application dependencies across IaaS, PaaS (VNet integration, Private Endpoints), and SaaS models.
Experience using tools like Azure Migrate Application and Code Assessment to plan for refactoring or re-platforming applications.
Familiarity with containerization concepts and services like Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Apps (ACA).
